PEL-SIL PEG-12LO is a special grade of PEG-12 Dimethicone that has been treated to reduce its propensity to form off odors on exposure to moisture. Standard grades of PEG-12 Dimethicone have an aldehydic odor and develop an even stronger odor when diluted with water or even from atmospheric moisture. That tendency is dramatically reduced in PEL-SIL PEG-12LO. It is stable in neutral or mildly acid or alkaline aqueous solutions. Its stability is reduced by strong acid or alkali. It is especially useful for the formulation of personal care products including hair sprays and gels where it serves as a plasticizer for the resins used in such styling products. It is also an excellent humectant & emollient in skin products and other leave-on products.
